About Us

About us.....

Welcome to Triton Kennels. We are dedicated hobby breeders devoted to producing the "true" german shepherd dog-a dog who has the capabilities to be a devoted working partner and a family companion and protector. Breeding dogs is my passion, not our source of income and I am deeply committed to excellence in the dogs I produce. I started showing in competitive obedience several years ago and then found the sport of schutzhund in the late 90's. During that time, I began researching and studying dogs and bloodlines prior to ever breeding our first litter. After determining the direction I wanted to go with my breeding program, we had our first litter in 2001. My husband, Tony, trialed our dogs in schutzhund & became a certified helper while I continued to also compete with the dogs in obedience. I like to show a nice working dog in more than one venue-that to me is part of the breed's versatility. We have been members of USA since 2000 and registered our kennel with USA at that time. I believe in quality, not quanity and offer a few select litters each year. German Shepherd Dogs come from many distinct "lines". Our breeding program is built on strong european working bloodlines. The German Shepherd is first and foremost a working dog. It is of the utmost importance to us to preserve the strong working abilities of this breed. I chose the european workinglines because we feel these bloodlines best represent the traits that I wish to produce and preserve. Dogs that are highly intelligent, excellent temperament and nerves, good health, correct working structure with the best aptitiude for work, sport & family companions and protectors. Our dogs have some of Europe's finest working bloodlines with multiple Bundessieger & WUSV participants in their pedigrees. We select dogs with bloodlines that not only have succeeded in competiton and work; but more importantly, have consistently passed these qualities onto their progeny.

Our Breeding Philosophy and Goals...

I strongly believe that quality females are the backbone of a successful breeding program and have taken great care & time selecting ours. Our entire breeding program is built on our females. A mediocre female will produce just that no matter how successful the male she is bred to. We carefully search for the best breeding females from Europe & select females from our own breedings that best represent our very high standards. Females with excellent temperament, strong drives, excellent work ethic, good working structure that can pass these strong traits to their progeny. We look for dogs with strong families that best represent their bloodlines. We look then carefully at each dog as an individual, not just their scorebooks. One has to be realistic when evalutating their dogs. No dog is perfect, all dogs have strengths and weaknesses that need to be taken into consideration in every breeding. Only by being honest in one's evaluation of breeding stock, can one hope to improve on the next generation. I look at each breeding as if it were the last one to ensure the best breeding combination possible. I want to produce litters that I want to keep and work puppies myself. The same care and high standards are taken into consideration when looking at males for breeding. We look at the best options available to us in this country and Europe; searching for the best male to compliment our females. The end result we hope is a litter that meets our high expectations for a versatile, balanced, sound, and healthy dog that can excel in it's chosen venue and serve as a member of the family. Triton dogs are all over the country performing in schutzhund, competitive obedience, agility, rally, tracking, SAR, personal protection, and outstanding family companions.

Puppies....

I put a tremendous amount of care and committment into raising our puppies. Proper socialization and imprinting the first 8 weeks here with us is very crucial in the pups development. Our puppies are whelped and raised in our home with our family; not outside in a kennel. They are exposed to children, adults, other animals, dogs and all household noises, and different surfaces. We handle pups extensively from birth on with a stimulating enviorment, also using the Bio Sensor Program- to best produce a confident and social puppy. Temperament testing is done at 7 weeks. I still feel the best evaluation is from observing the puppies in their daily interactions with their mother, littermates, people & their environment. Pups are also given a health exam by our veternarian, have been on a routine worming schedule over the 8 weeks, and have recieved their first immunization. By 8 weeks, we have a very strong assessment of each puppy as far as their temperaments & drives. This then helps us in our selection process for our clients in making the best possible match. We take great time and care in placing each one of our pups. All potential owners are carefully screened not only to make sure this breed is for them, but also to allow us to best understand exactly what you are looking for in a dog. Our goal is to place each puppy in a forever home. Once a pup goes home, this process & foundation then continues with the owner in order to bring this dog to it's fullest potential. We are then available for support to our owners for the lifetime of the dog. Our commitment doesn't end after the sale!

 Our Commitment.....

As I mentioned before, we actively train our dogs in schutzhund and competitive obedience. Not only do we enjoy the time spent training and bonding with our dogs; this also helps us to evaluate our dogs temperament and drives. Through training,we can better evaluate our dogs strengths & weaknesses to help us make the best breeding choices in the future for our breeding program. There really is no better way to evaluate your own dogs. By training and competing in a variety of venues with our dogs, we understand the types of dogs who are best suited for a variety of sports & work. This helps us understand our clients needs and work to make the best match between owner and puppy. This is always our number one goal.

At Triton Kennels. we keep pups from our breedings for training with the intention of joining our program after titles and health clearances. Our goal really is to create a "breeding program" with dogs from our own breedings. We're proud of our dogs bred and take pride in every title earned.. First and foremost, the dogs are our companions and members of our family. We maintain a small breeding program to ensure our dogs get quality time. Your not going to find a large commercial kennel when you visit with us. We are hobby breeders who truley care about this great breed and have worked hard to build a solid & reputable breeding program. Our commitment doesn't stop after the sale; we are here for the owner for the lifetime of the dog. It is very important for us to maintain a relationship with the clients after the pups go home. We truley care about every dog we place and want to ensure that we are always available as a resource. All of our guarantees include a first right of refusal on every dog we place. We understand changes can happen in one's life; and if for any reason the owner can no longer keep the dog, we want the option to take the dog back. This way we can always ensure their well being.

If you are looking for your next competition dog, working partner, or new family member; we encourage you to visit our website and contact us for more information on a Triton puppy. We expect the highest quality in our dogs, shouldn't you?

We hope you enjoy your visit
